Iv. Melikhov et al., BREAKUP OF PARTICLES IN A MOVING SUSPENSION ON WALLS, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 55(5), 1993, pp. 720-726
We have theoretically and experimentally investigated the process of b
reakup of particles upon repeated interaction of a jet of a particle s
uspension with an undeformable wall. We propose a model of the breakup
, according to which the particles are fragmented into comparable part
s upon multiple impacts against a surface element. Based on numerical
analysis of the particle motion in the jet and a statistical calculati
on of the probability of repeated impact against a surface element, we
obtained the dependence of the mass-average diameter of the particles
on the number of trials. The calculation results satisfactorily descr
ibe the experimental data obtained for an aqueous suspension of sodium
chloride crystals.
