Vm. Muller et Aa. Potanin, MECHANISMS OF ENERGY-LOSS BY PARTICLES COLLIDING WITH A SOLID-SURFACE, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 55(5), 1993, pp. 727-737
Calculations are performed to determine the loss of energy by a partic
le colliding with a solid surface with allowance for elastoplastic def
ormation and contact electrostatic charging. Deformation is determined
within the framework of a phenomenological model based on the princip
le of superposition of the elastic and plastic components of strain. Q
uantitative estimates obtained for the coefficient of restitution (the
ratio of rebound velocity to collision velocity) agree with well-know
n experimental data.
