Abstract
Cyclopropanation of Z- and E-styryl benzyl sulfones (I and II) and E,Z - and E,E-bis(styryl)sulfones (IV and V) have been carried out with ph enacyldimethylsulfonium bromides in the presence of a phase transfer c atalyst, benzyltriethylammonium chloride (BTEAC) to afford III and VI. On the other hand, the direct addition of dimethylsulfoxonium phenacy lides to the substrates I, II, IV and V, the same III and VI have been obtained. The PTC method was found to be advantageous.
