Ma. Spitsyn et Vn. Andreev, ELECTROOXIDATION OF HCOOH, CH2O, AND CH3OH AT PLATINUM MODIFIED WITH THE ADSORPTION PRODUCTS OF ORGANIC-SUBSTANCES, Russian electrochemistry, 29(4), 1993, pp. 597-601
The influence of preadsorbed monolayers of organic compounds on the el
ectrooxidation of HCOOH, CH2O, and CH3OH was studied at platinized pla
tinum. The adsorption products of benzene, aniline, paraphenylenediami
ne, and nitrobenzene accelerated the oxidation of HCOOH and CH2O but i
nhibited the oxidation of CH3OH. The effect of the adsorbed substances
strongly depended on the substituents (and number of substituents) in
the benzene ring of aromatic compounds. Possible reasons for these ef
fects were discussed.
