This review article is devoted to theoretical and experimental investi
gations of the interaction of Charges Produced in the focal volume of
laser radiation. Different theoretical approaches are discussed, deali
ng with both the description of the interaction process and the influe
nce of the process on the magnitudes recorded in the experiments on mu
ltiphoton ionization of atoms and molecules, such as ion yield, ion ti
me of flight to the detector, electron current, and angular and energy
electron distributions. The experimental data are shown to be in rath
er good agreement with theoretical description.
