Southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula (L.), feeding resulted in a
significant increase in nut abortion rates in smaller nuts (10-28 mm d
iameter) but not in full-size nuts. Studies also showed that, for full
-size nuts, damage can occur both in the tree canopy and on the ground
, generally within 1 wk of nut drop. The magnitude of damage appears t
o be higher on the ground than in the canopy, suggesting that pest man
agement programs that reduce population levels on the ground need to b
e implemented to decrease damage levels.
