Abstract
FT-IR spectrometry was applied to the quantitative chemical state anal ysis of several kinds of ceramic powders. , In a few experiments, the particle size of the sample powder affected the peak intensity on the FT-IR/DR spectrum. The particle size of a component in the multiple co mponent sample could be determined by measuring the intensity ratio be tween two peaks specific to the component. And the concentration of th e component could be determined by comparing the peak intensity with t hat of pure powder having the same particle size. FT-IR/PAS and laser induced thermal emission spectrometry were also studied. ICP-AES and A AS were applied for the purpose of high sensitivity analysis of the me tallic impurities in ceramic powders. The optimum methods of sample de composition and for measuring the concentration of impurities in four kinds of ceramics (Si3N4, SiC, Al2O3 and ZrO2) were proposed. For SiC, two decomposition methods (Na2CO3 fusion of whole sample and acid ext raction of impurities) were studied. The results showed that most impu rities were condensed on the surface of SiC particles.
