The scope for improving the quality of criminal justice administration
in Australia is severely restricted by (a) unpredictable and often un
warranted demands on criminal justice resources, (b) limited informati
on about the flow of demand for service between criminal justice agenc
ies and (c) inadequate attention to the outcomes of investment in law
enforcement, sentencing and correctional policy. This paper explains w
hy this is so and discusses three strategies designed to deal with (a)
, (b) and (c).
