R. Nogales et al., NUTRIENT REMOVAL POTENTIAL OF WATER HYACINTH GROWN IN STATIC FE-ENRICHED SEWAGE WATER, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 3(6), 1994, pp. 325-330
Water hyacinths showed optimal effectiveness in reducing N, P and K, a
nd a weaker capacity to remove conductivity and chloride from a second
ary sewage effluent. Sodium concentration in sewage water was little a
ffected by water hyacinth growth. The addition of 5 mgFe L-1 to sewage
water increased P removal, enhancing biomass production and N and P u
ptake by these macrophytes.
