Abstract
Up-to date methods of animal marking have been reviewed underlining th eir veterinary, animal breeding, animal welfare and property protectio n aspects. First generation animal markings with digital codes were te sted also in Hungary during the second half of seventies and they were used more widely in the middle of eighties. Nowadays transponders put in collars are used for the registration of milk in the milking house , for the automatic feeding outside the milking house, and for the up- to date administration of feeding, breeding and reproductive state on eight dairy farms (average number of cows 630, extreme values 200 and 900).
