Up-to date methods of animal marking have been reviewed underlining th
eir veterinary, animal breeding, animal welfare and property protectio
n aspects. First generation animal markings with digital codes were te
sted also in Hungary during the second half of seventies and they were
used more widely in the middle of eighties. Nowadays transponders put
in collars are used for the registration of milk in the milking house
, for the automatic feeding outside the milking house, and for the up-
to date administration of feeding, breeding and reproductive state on
eight dairy farms (average number of cows 630, extreme values 200 and
900).
