W. Popek et al., THE ROLE OF THE PINEAL-GLAND IN THE CONTROL OF A CIRCADIAN PITUITARY GONADOTROPIN-RELEASE RHYTHMICITY IN MATURE FEMALE CARP, Neuro endocrinology letters, 16(3), 1994, pp. 183-193
These studies concerned the changes in gonadotropin (GtH2) blood plasm
a levels during a 24 h period in mature female carp during the spawnin
g season (L:D=16:8). The aim of this research is to clarify whether th
e pineal gland is implicated in circadian rhythm of of GtH2 release in
the mature carp females. The result showed that the pinealectomy did
not affect neither the level nor the pituitary GtH2 release rhythmicit
y, and its amplitude and acrophase. Probably pineal gland does not exe
rt a major influence on circadian organization of GtH2 release in the
carp.
