FORMATION OF A DISSIPATIVE STRUCTURE - A NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS

In this paper, a two-species Lotka-Volterra diffusive system with inte r-specific competition has been considered. We have observed that this system may give rise to the spontaneous emergence of a dissipative st ructure only in the presence of cross-diffusion. The critical wave len gth just sufficient to perturb the system into local instability has b een worked out. We have also investigated the global behaviour of such types of dissipative structures with the help of a suitable Liapunov function.
