G. Dion et R. Tessier, VALIDATION OF THE FRENCH-LANGUAGE VERSION OF THE MASLACH BURNOUT INVENTORY, Canadian journal of behavioural science, 26(2), 1994, pp. 210-227
The purpose of this study is to validate a French-language version of
the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) with two samples of 260 Quebec day
care workers and 123 Quebec nurses. Indices of internal consistency, l
ong-range stability, factorial validity, convergent validity and hypot
hetico-deductive validity are reported which emphasize the positive ps
ychometric properties of the translation. In addition, cut-off points
used to categorize MBI scores according to burnout symptomatology leve
ls and based on scores distribution of Quebec samples are compared to
American standards; based on the categorization, in a year, 6.9% of th
e day care workers have developed serious symptoms of burnout. Practic
al implications of the results are discussed.
