The thermal reaction of CpCo(C2H4)2 with thiophene yields the C-S ins
ertion product [CPCo]2(mu-eta2,eta3-C4H4S). Reaction with dibenzothio
phene produces the analogous dinuclear C-S insertion adduct [CPCo]2(m
u-eta2,eta3-C12H8S) the crystal structure of which was determined. Rea
ction of the thiophene insertion adduct with H2S gives a new butadiene
dithiolate compound in which sulfur has inserted into the metal-carbon
bond, [CPCo]2(mu-eta2,eta2-S2C4H4).
