Abstract
Ultraviolet irradiation of CpRh(C2H4)2 in hexane in the presence of na phthalene or anthracene yields the CpRh(eta-4-arene) complexes 1 and 4 respectively. In the case of naphthalene, the compounds (CpRh)3C10H8 (2) and (CpRh)4C10H8 (3) are additionally formed; their structures con taining synfacial bridging eta4 : eta3 : eta3 (2) or eta4 : eta2 : eta 2 : eta2 (3) naphthalene ligands have been derived from spectroscopic data. The X-ray diffraction analyses of 1 and 4 reveal folding of the eta4-bonded part of the arenes by an angle of about 35-degrees.
