The series of terminal hafnium chalcogenido complexes (eta5-C5Me4R)2Hf
(E)(NC5H5) (E = S, Se, Te; R = Me, Et) has been synthesized by the rea
ctions of (eta5-C5Me4R)2Hf(CO)2 with the chalcogens E in the presence
of NC5H5. The oxo derivatives (eta5-C5Me4R)2Hf(O)(NC5H5) are prepared
by the reaction of the tellurido complexes (eta5-C5Me4R)2Hf(Te)(NC5H5)
with N2O. The structures of the complete series of chalcogenido compl
exes (eta5-C5Me4Et)2Hf(E)(NC5H5) (E = 0, S, Se, Te) have been determin
ed by X-ray diffraction.
