U. Fischer et al., MRL GUIDED BIOPSY OF SUSPECT BREAST-LESIONS WITH A SIMPLE STEREOTAXICADD-ON DEVICE FOR SURFACE COILS, Radiology, 192(1), 1994, pp. 272-273
A guiding attachment is described that transforms a conventional magne
tic resonance (MR) imaging surface coil into a stereotaxic biopsy unit
. Eight patients, aged 38-66 years (mean, 54 years), with suspect brea
st lesions detected exclusively at contrast material-enhanced MR imagi
ng underwent MR-guided needle biopsy with this unit Diagnostic materia
l was successfully aspirated in all patients (four carcinomas, three f
ibroadenomas, and one intraductal hyperplasia), and the diagnosis was
subsequently confirmed at surgical biopsy. This technique promises to
increase the diagnostic specificity for lesions seen solely at MR imag
ing.
