TWO INDUSTRIAL LIBRARY managers state the qualities they look for in l
ibrary school graduates to fill positions in their organizations and t
he key skills that they expect to be included in the curricula of libr
ary schools. Library employers are consumers of library school product
s and library schools should be aware of their consumers' needs. Speci
al libraries have special requirements in addition to subject speciali
zation such as determining the priority of requests, appreciating the
impact of information on the business, and the timeliness of replies t
o the requests. At the same time, they are of ten small departments wh
ere each member must be a generalist, and there is not much time to ta
ke on outside duties. Nevertheless, they recommend several steps that
special librarians can take to bring special library concerns and need
s to the formal education program.
