I. Nishigaki et al., SUPPRESSIVE EFFECT OF ASTAXANTHIN ON LIPID-PEROXIDATION INDUCED IN RATS, Journal of clinical biochemistry and nutrition, 16(3), 1994, pp. 161-166
Astaxanthin, one of the naturally occurring derivatives of vitamin A,
was found to suppress lipid peroxidation in a rat liver microsomal sys
tem. This substance was also found to suppress lipid peroxidation in r
ats induced by either carbon tetrachloride or Co-60-irradiation. The s
uppressive effect of astaxanthin on lipid peroxidation was more potent
than that of alpha-tocopherol.
