Abstract
An algorithm for the characterization of local frequencies in two-dime nsional (2D) signals is described. The algorithm generalizes to the 2D situation a method previously proposed in the 1D context, based on th e analysis of the phase of the continuous wavelet transform. It uses f amilies of wavelets generated from a unique one by shifts, dilations a nd rotations.
