Abstract
A basically new physical model is developed for the mechanism of the p lasma focus based on the assumption that the usually neglected space-c harge term in Maxwell's equations is dominating due to the double laye r of the discharge. The result is then neither an oscillating nor a wa ve solution but a single high-current pulse which agrees with measurem ents of focus electron beams.
