Abstract
The diffusion of hydrated chlorine ions (Cl-) in concrete is influence d by the porosity and the composition of hardened cement paste. Result s of the experimental series demonstrate that the addition of aluminat es, granulated blast furnace slag or fly ash to ordinary Portland ceme nt considerably reduces the diffusion rate of Cl-. The reduction of th e diffusion rate depends not only on the amount and the chemical compo sition of the additives but also on their mineralogical structure. All these factors are incorporated in the presented mathematical formulat ion of the Cl- diffusion coefficient.
