Abstract
Phase relationships in hardened cement paste and their influence on st rength and stiffness of concrete are considered. The concept of cement -saturation is defined and it is shown that concretes with cement cont ent less than and greater than cement-saturation respond in fundamenta lly different ways to changes in water:cement ratio.
