M. Jurkiewiczherbich et al., ANALYSIS OF THE DIFFERENTIAL CAPACITY OF THE MERCURY SIMPLE ALCOHOL SOLUTION INTERFACE, Journal of electroanalytical chemistry [1992], 370(1-2), 1994, pp. 165-169
A method of analysing the differential capacity developed by Amokrane
and Badiali is applied to investigations of the structure of the inter
face between mercury and simple aliphatic alcohols. Capacitance data f
or methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and n-butanol are discussed. The solv
ent contribution C(S) is obtained by subtracting the contribution C(M)
due to the metal from the inner layer capacitance C(i) according to t
he procedure proposed by Amokrane and Badiali. The C(S) values are fou
nd to be very similar for all aliphatic alcohols studied. The C(S)-sig
ma(M) curves have a similar shape with a single maximum at a posititiv
e charge density and a characteristic inflection at a negative charge
density. The effect of ions in the various supporting electrolytes on
the C(S)-sigma(M) profiles was also studied.
