THE NEW BROMPTON-ESTATE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT TRIAL - FIRST RESULTS

The site is und erlain by an upper level Quaternary aquifer. ambient salinity 2000 mg/ l, which receives stormwater supplied from the trench via a bore durin g large winter storm events. Water pumped from the aquifer in summer s hows a quality suitable for open space irrigation. Observations made d uring the second half of 1992 have highlighted aspects of the design w hich require modification in order to improve the performance of the r etention/recharge/retrieval system. Data collected between August and October have indicated that the volume of storm\vater stored in the aq uifer on an annual basis will be sufficient to meet the irrigation nee ds of the reserve.
