Abstract
The resonant parametric interaction of magnetosonic and Alfven modes i n a planar plasma waveguide with a nonuniform density profile and arbi trarily oriented magnetic field is analyzed. In the MHD approximation, by solving the nonlinear boundary problem, the simplified equations f or the complex amplitudes of interacting modes are obtained for the ca se of a parabolic plasma density profile. The growth rates of the deca y instability are determined.
