Using a monoclonal antibody developed to a mouse trophectodermal carci
noma stem cell line E6496D lysate, we have identified the gene that en
codes murine cyclin E. The cDNA contains a consensus cyclin box and a
long 3' untranslated region and shares over 75% homology with human cy
clin E cDNA. We show that the gene is expressed in fetal tissues, embr
yonal carcinoma F9 cells and yolk sac carcinoma PYS-2 cells, but is no
t expressed in preimplantation stages of development. In adult tissues
, cycE mRNA is detectable in the spleen and to a lesser extent in the
testis and brain. These data show that cycE is developmentally regulat
ed and unevenly expressed in fetal and adult mouse tissues. (C) 1994 A
