This paper is a report of the results of the first phase of a three-ph
ase research project, Project KICK (Kids In Cooperation With Kids). Th
e project includes a school-based research study that examined the int
eraction between parent education, positive peer role modeling and dru
g education for third graders. The general hypothesis was that our int
ervention would lead to an increase in self-esteem, improved attitudes
, increased knowledge regarding drugs, and an improvement in the quali
ty of parent-child relationships among third graders. Preliminary resu
lts were encouraging. Increases were found in the predicted direction
on all major variables except for drug information.
