Abstract
The metallurgical mechanism responsible for the initiation and propaga tion of circumferentially oriented, fire-side cracks on waterwall boil er tube steels was investigated. The results showed that cracks were i nitiated by a sulfidation corrosion/thermal fatigue interactive mechan ism. Crack propagation occurs by an environmentally assisted thermal-f atigue mechanism.
