In Al-Cu-Fe alloys plastic deformation of quasi-crystalline as well as
related crystalline phases were studied by hot compression test, micr
ohardness and toughness measurements. The microstructure of the alloys
was investigated by transmission electron microscopy before and after
hot compression tests. The dislocation density increases significantl
y after the deformation process of the quasi-crystalline phases thus i
ndicating a dislocation-controlled deformation mechanism. The observed
dislocation density, however, is assumed to be too small for the intr
oduced deformation and is probably more typical for a microstructure a
fter annealing out of defects.
