Abstract
Simultaneous addition of V and M (M = Al or Si) improves the squarenes s of the hysteresis loops and the remanence of Fe3B-based, Nd-Fe-B har d magnetic material. The V-and-M-added permanent magnet ribbons have H (cl) = 360-410 kA m-1 and B(r) = 1.0-1.2 T. The microstructure of the V-and V-and-M-added ribbons was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The average grain size of the V-added material is 40 nm in diameter, whereas in the improved material with the V and M additions the mean grain size is 20 nm. Within the framework of existing theori es, the reduced grain size due to M addition contributes to the improv ed magnetic properties.
