Bulk amorphous alloy was fabricated by rolling of mechanically alloyed
Al-Cr powders. Single-phase amorphous alloy was not obtained by only
mechanical alloying of Al-15at.%Cr powders; however, the subsequent he
at treatment led to complete amorphization. Sound bulk amorphous alloy
was obtained by first rolling as-mechanically-alloyed powders at a te
mperature not high enough to induce amorphization and then by subseque
nt heat treatment which produced amorphization. The degree of compacti
on for bulk amorphous alloy obtained by this process was superior to t
hat obtained by direct rolling of amorphous powders. The relative dens
ity of bulk amorphous alloy increased up to a maximum of 94% with incr
easing average rolling pressure.
