R. Modgil et U. Mehta, EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF CALLOSOBRUCHUS-CHINENSIS L INFESTATIONON PROXIMATE PRINCIPLES, TRUE PROTEIN, METHIONINE AND URIC-ACID CONTENTS OF GREENGRAM AND REDGRAM, Journal of Food Science and Technology, 31(2), 1994, pp. 135-139
The effects of insect infestation on proximate principles, calories, t
rue protein, non-protein nitrogen, methionine and uric acid contents i
n greengram and redgram were studied. With the increase in level of in
festation, a significant increase was observed in all parameters studi
ed, except in case of calories, true protein and methionine contents.
The values in latter cases decreased significantly. Increase in uric a
cid was manifold. Thus, the qualitative and quantitative damages to gr
ains are related to the extent of infestations and such grains should
be avoided for human consumption.
