A novel, relatively simple procedure has been developed for the determ
ination of Sr-90 in natural aqueous samples. The method is based on th
e assumption that the radiochemical equilibrium is already established
in the sample. Then the daughter element of Sr-90, the Y-90 is separa
ted and its activity measured. The separation of Y-90 in aqueous solut
ion is based on the selective ion-exchange behaviour of the mixture of
yttrium-oxalate and yttrium-ammonium-oxalate salts. In this paper the
preparation of the mixture, the selectivity experiments, the technica
l procedure of the method are described and results of the first testi
ng measurements are given.
