Wide angle X-ray diffraction has been used to investigate polymorphism
in isotactic polypropylene (IPP) mouldings produced by conventional i
njection moulding and by shear controlled orientation injection mouldi
ng (SCORIM). Gamma Phase was found to form in highly oriented IPP prod
uced by SCORIM, with a marked enhancement of the preferred orientation
of the alpha phase and percentage crystallinity when compared with co
nventionally moulded IPP.
