G. Tas et Hj. Maris, ELECTRON-DIFFUSION IN METALS STUDIED BY PICOSECOND ULTRASONICS, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 49(21), 1994, pp. 15046-15054
We have studied the ultrasonic pulses that are generated when a picose
cond light pulse is absorbed in a metallic film. The pulse shape is in
fluenced by the distance that the hot electrons diffuse before losing
their energy to the lattice. We show that this method can be used to t
est theories of the electron-phonon and electron-electron scattering r
ates. The results are in excellent agreement with a calculation in whi
ch the nonthermal character of the electron distribution is taken into
account.
