In this paper, three dimensional momentum and continuity equations and
three dimensional energy equations are solved simultaneously to obtai
n pressure, velocity and temperature field in the fluid of a hydrodyna
mic circular journal bearing. Solutions of these equations are obtaine
d by using the powerful numerical technique, finite element method. Fo
r a range of values of eccentricity ratios, the static performance cha
racteristics in terms of the load capacity, attitude angle, end leakag
e and the power loss are computed and the results are presented.
