Abstract
Larval mosquito distribution in a section of a waste tire pile was rel ated to tire rim diameter, gap between the tire beads, and tire locati on within the pile. Larval density was dependent upon facing direction of the tire and location within the pile. Pest mosquitoes were not co llected in tires with Toxorhynchites rutilus rutilus and were only rar ely in tires with Corethrella sp. This study suggests that tire piling practices may influence pest mosquito populations in waste tire piles .
