In polymorphic ZnS:Fe2+ a system of zero-phonon lines within the 3T1(H
) --> 5E(D) emission and 5E(D) --> 3A2(F) excitation transitions, resp
ectively, has been detected. By use of site-selected spectroscopy all
four observed groups of zero-phonon emission and excitation lines are
identified and assigned to Fe2+ centers on the cubic (AN) and hexagona
l (PS) lattice sites, and the two axially distorted sites AS, PN.
