Abstract
Glasses in the CdO-SiO2 system, at room temperature show a broad (0.5 eV) UV-excited photoluminescence (PL) band of intrinsic nature centere d at 590 nm. The PL intensity shows a weak dependence with temperature down to 10 K and a lifetime of the order of 0.1 ms. For Nd3+-doped ca dmium silicate glasses, an effective radiative transfer between the ho st and the Nd3+ ions is observed.
