Abstract
We use femtosecond blue pulses to probe the transient electronic and v ibrational response of two heme proteins: ferrocytochrome c and deoxym yoglobin. When sub-50 fs pulses are used, we are able to observe the c oherent ground state nuclear motion of the heme chromophore as well as its coupling to the amino acid backbone.
