Emission and decay kinetics properties of heavily doped CsI:Tl+ are co
mpared with those of a low concentration sample. New emission bands at
2.79, 2.37 and 2.10 eV are ascribed to Tl+ dimers. Theoretical invest
igation of the coexistence of three nonequivalent excited state minima
of Tl+ in a body-centred cubic host is reported. Coexistence can be o
btained for reasonable values of parameters in CsI:Tl+.
