Bis(2-methythydrazino)tetraphenyldisiloxane, 1, is prepared by the con
trolled hydrolysis of bis(2-methythydrazino)diphenylsilane, 2. Crystal
s of 1 are monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n, with a = 10.3200(19) angst
rom, b = 7.3343(20) angstrom, c = 16.6.58(3) angstrom, beta = 94.013(1
5)-degrees, and Z = 2. The molecule is centrosymmetric, with a linear
SiOSi skeleton and with the bridging 0 atom at the center of symmetry.
The coordinations at N(1) and N(2), are found to be planar and pyrami
dal, respectively, in 1. The solution NMR properties of 1 (H-1, Si-29,
N-15) are also reported. The structural characteristics of 1 are comp
ared with other hydrazinosilanes.
