This article presents the findings of a year-long exploratory and desc
riptive research study designed to explore and describe the perspectiv
es of six Canadian nurse educators regarding clinical teaching. A pers
pective consists of a teacher's theoretical, knowledge and value claim
s in regard to teaching. The participants' perspectives revealed how t
hey intended to teach in the clinical area, as well as how they percei
ved and responded to situations which arose in clinical learning exper
iences. The research highlights the need to explore the possible conse
quences of teachers' value and knowledge claims with all clinical teac
hers, particularly novices.
