The presence of pyridinium chlorochromate as an oxidizing agent in ace
tonitrile solution containing the monomer and the doping agent signifi
cantly accelerates electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. The thic
kness of polypyrrole layers produced by this combined electrochemical
and chemical synthesis reaches several milimetres for the 60 min polym
erization reaction. The influence of pyridinium chlorochromate concent
ration on the rate of polymer formation and the amount of released gas
was investigated during the combined synthesis of polypyrrole. The po
lypyrrole prepared was characterized by ESCA analysis.
