Abstract
Practical considerations lead to the use of small columns in preparati ve chromatography. In these applications extra column effects may over whelm all broadening effects. The influence of the extra column effect s on the band broadening and migration is demonstrated by simulation. The model assumes linearity of extra column effects. Consequently, the se effects could be described by the convolution of the initial applie d band width, an exponential decay and Gaussian broadening. An attempt has been made to discriminate between the column, pre- and postcolumn broadening.
