Abstract
Crosslinking copolymerization of styrene with divinylbenzene, butanedi ol dimethacrylate and ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate in the presence of benzil in the dissolved state results in benzil-encapsulated crosslin ked polymers. Resins with various crosslink densities were prepared by adjusting the monomer/crosslinker ratio. The benzil entrapped in the cavities was subjected to benzil-benzilic acid rearrangement. The prec ursor resins and the rearrangement products were characterized by IR a nd C-13 NMR spectroscopy. The surface properties of polystyrene and be nzil-encapsulated polystyrene were compared by scanning electron micro graphy.
