Acute ingestion of ibuprofen commonly results in no symptoms, or minor
gastrointestinal or central nervous system manifestations. While most
cases of ibuprofen overdose do well, serious toxicity may occur, and
is difficult to predict. A case of ibuprofen overdose is presented in
which the course was complicated by metabolic acidosis, adult respirat
ory distress syndrome, and renal failure necessitating prolonged dialy
sis.
