This is the first reported association of blunt splenic rupture and Gl
anzmann's thrombasthenia in a 9-year-old boy. Splenic salvage procedur
es are currently preferred in the treatment of traumatic splenic injur
ies in children because of the high risk of overwhelming infection aft
er splenectomy. Despite intensive conservative treatment, our patient
remained hemodynamically unstable. We performed a total splenectomy du
e to difficulty in achieving hemostasis. We believe it is necessary to
choose appropriate treatment according to the pathophysiology of the
bleeding tendency in children with splenic rupture.
