Amine oxidase activities from pea (Pisum sativum L.) and poppy (Papave
r somniferum L.) seedlings were tested by using aromatic amines as sub
strates (benzylamine, tyramine, dopamine, phenylethylamine and tryptam
ine). The changes in UV-spectra during enzyme reactions tested were co
mpared for individual substrates. Identical changes in UV-spectra for
dopamine by using of both enzyme preparations and similarity of amine
oxidase bands on nondenaturing PAGE indicate a dopamine specific amine
oxidase in poppy seedlings. Results are discussed in relation to the
biosynthesis of reticuline.
